Governors

A message from our Chair of Governors, Mrs Anita Masters

On behalf of our Chair of Governors, welcome to Heron Primary School. On this page you can find out more about who the Governors are, how they help the school and the role of our Governors at Heron.

All of our Governors bring a wide range of knowledge and expertise to our school from a variety of backgrounds. They are all volunteers who want to make a positive contribution to the education of our pupils. Our role is to ensure that the school meets its commitment to ensure that every child receives the best education possible in a secure, caring, friendly and stimulating learning environment. We support the school but also monitor performance and challenge the schools’ leadership team to ensure that standards are kept high. We do this by visiting the school regularly to test strategies, policies and to gather feedback from pupils and the staff team. We also ensure that we attend the cycle of Governor meetings in each school year.

The Governing body makes collective decisions on matters such as the school’s development plan and school policies and, together with Claire Brookes, Headteacher, they set the future direction of the school and decide how the school’s budget should be spent.

The official role of a Governor is to:

  • Ensure clarity of vision, ethos and strategic direction
  • Hold the Headteacher to account for the educational performance of the school and its pupils
  • Oversee the financial performance of the school and ensure value for money

Our Governors are:

Mrs Nina Barnes

Mrs Claire Brookes

Mrs Anna Burn

Mrs Lynn Campbell-Davies

Mr Lee Cookes

Mrs Anita Masters

Miss Harriet Milsom

Mrs Naznin Ismail

Mrs Louise Jarvis

Mrs D Hogg

Mrs M Pilsworth

The structure of our Governor body is as follows:

  • 4 Parent Governors - elected by parents and carers of children at school
  • 6 Co-Opted Governors - appointed by the Governing body
  • 2 Partnership Governors - appointed by the Governing body
  • 1 LA Governor - appointed by the Local Authority
  • 1 Staff Governor - selected by election from staff employed at school
  • 1 Headteacher (ex-officio) Governor

The Clerk to the Governors is Mrs Celeste Smith. If you have any Governor related queries you can contact Celeste by email, clerk@heron.gloucs.sch.uk.
